Marsupial Tries To Protect The Rail
Although it doesn’t happen often, the horse racing industry doesn’t get too surprised when it hears about large wildlife getting out onto the racetrack (remember the deer?). That being said, the most recent incarnation of the occurrence is probably a first for many.
As an article by the Huffington Post explains, on Tuesday, May 2 a kangaroo hopped onto the racecourse at Cessnock in New South Wales. He did his best to disrupt a field of runners.
Neither the horses, riders or kangaroo was hurt, even though the uninvited guest darted dangerously off the rail and through the field.
"Fortunately, we got away with it with no one injured," rider Robert Thompson told Sky Thoroughbred Central.
"Of course, it could have been serious."
