Mohawk Cancels; Stakes Rescheduled

Published: September 1, 2014 11:25 pm EDT

Due to unsafe track conditions, racing was cancelled Monday night at Mohawk Racetrack following the evening’s ninth race.

A heavy downpour of rain midway through the 12-race card caused the track surface, which started the night listed as ‘Fast,’ to be downgraded to ‘Sloppy.’

Following the ninth race, the Ontario Racing Commission judges, and officials from the Woodbine Entertainment Group, ruled the track to be unsafe to continue racing action and cancelled the remaining three races.

The final Ontario Sires Stakes Grassroots division for three-year-old trotting colts and geldings, which was carded as Race 10, will take place tomorrow evening (Tuesday, September 2) at 7 p.m. and will be contested as a non-wagering race.

Following the non-wagering event, an 11-race card will take place with a regular post time of 7:25 p.m.

Harness Racing 101: Rule 1 is avoid refunds at all cost. Rule 2 is always follow rule 1!

The ORC is supposed to make rulings that are in the best interest of the betting public and the integrity of the game. I had $800 worth of win four wagers all keyed onto #8 in the 9th race... I then had an all in the 3rd leg and multiple horses in the final leg. My race 9 key was wiped out by the starting gate before the start and the judges decided that it was in my best interest to give 25% of my money to WEG and the other 75% to players who's horse was not wiped out by the malfunctioning equipment!
Thank you mister ORC for protecting me! I'm so happy to have been paying your salary for the past 30 years. By the way, I'm a million dollar a year player
I tried to show the race to friends... but the replays were not shown at 5 a.m. this morning as they always are and the 5:30 p.m. replays showed only races 1 through 8...
Clearly they don't want anyone to see the travesty that occurred last night!
How about this idea as a rule of thumb... when more than half the field is interfered with before the start, hit the recall button or rule the race a no-contest!
I agree with Mr. Anderson... shame on you!
Somebody owes me $800... and an apology wouldn't be out of order.

What a crock! The ninth race should have been declared a no-contest, but then the entire pick four pool would have to been refunded. The replacement of a horse with the post time favourite should not occur when a horse(s) is taken out by mechanical error. The pick four pool is high for a reason, because people invest a lot of money in it. To have it stolen by a disgusting judges ruling is criminal. Shame on you!
