Woodbine Entertainment Group and the Central Ontario Standardbred Association (COSA), pleased with the $116,000 wagered into last Saturday’s $100,000 guaranteed early Pick-4 pool at Woodbine, has raised the guarantee on Saturday nights for the rest of the month
.
Originally offered as a $75,000 guarantee on the early Pick-4 for the other Saturday nights in April (9, 16, 23, 30), the guarantee will now be $100,000.
“Customers recognized there was very good value in our $100,000 guaranteed early Pick-4 on Saturday and were attracted to playing,” said Jamie Martin, WEG’s Executive Vice President of Racing on behalf of the WEG-COSA partnership. “Given the results, we think it makes sense to continue the guarantee for the near future.”
The early Pick-4 payoff on Saturday returned $578.95 for a $1 bet.
A $50,000 guaranteed early Pick-4 will continue on Monday evenings as will the $40,000 minimum pots on the other race nights.

There is no doubt the takeout is still way too high...and here's hoping this is a $$ work in progress... but also of great import was the buzz... (People were talking about the bet that night...races were very competitive and daring to 'key' was a risk)
I was at off track sat night and nobody wanted to miss that wager.. and yes odds at 7-2, 3-1, 4-5, 7-2 brought things in a bit on short side....but, throw a couple of 8-1 or betters in there next time and watch the payout jump up dramatically. (I highly recommend group play like lottery 'cause you know a good one's comin')
The bottom line: the fact people were talking about it means plenty....
**speaking of 'talking about it', but alas we can't get a break on it,,,Balmoral's carryover pick 5 this past sunday night...they're playing 50 cent min. down there unlike our $1 long distance mininum to play the same game....it's a great bet on a tasty payout and I gotta tell ya, very pickable results that night even with the longshots,,,,came back paying out 6700 bucks for 50 cents...
PLEASE, can the responsible body(ies) get with the times, and let us in for the 10's and 50's minimum throughout the US racing world.....If the reason is that the regulatory bodies are trying to protect smaller Canadian operations,,,,GET OFF IT..
They will either sink or swim.....that is what business is about.

Lets all keep in mind that the "rake" on that money wagered was over $25,000. If WEG would lowere their take to 15% as Balmoral did, there would be $7600 more paid back to the bettors. That Win 4 would have paid somewhere around $628.
