George Guy Passes

Longtime harness racing industry participant George Guy of Oxford Mills, Ont. passed away peacefully at the Southbridge Care Home of Kemptville on Monday Oct. 23, 2023 at the age of 86.

Beloved husband of 65 years to Beverley Guy (nee Dangerfield). Loving father of Judi Paterson (John), Trudy Guy and Ron Guy (Sue). Loving Grandpa of David Paterson (Brandi), Steven Paterson (Cheryl), Angela (Shawn Proulx), Marie Paterson, Ken Guy, Kyle Guy (Cydney) and Ryan Guy. Loving Great-Grandpa of 11 Great Grandchildren. George loved being a farmer and enjoyed the time he spent hunting with Ron, Kyle and friends.

George was an avid horseperson from a young boy and later in life became involved in the Standardbred racing industry. George, Bev and Ron travelled to Kingston, Montreal, Connaught Park and Rideau Carleton regularly. He enjoyed the competition as well as the camaraderie with other horsemen.

One of the highlights of his career was breeding and racing the 1984 Aged Pacing Mare of the Year at Rideau Carleton, Toppers Pride.

George's family would like to thank the long-term care and medical staff of the Kemptville District Hospital and Southbridge Care Home for their care and compassion.

Friends are invited to visit the Kemptville Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 805 Prescott Street, Kemptville on Tuesday Oct. 31, 2023 from 1 p.m. until service time in the Chapel at 2 p.m., followed by a reception in Kemptville Reception Centre.

Donations to the Kemptville District Hospital Foundation would be appreciated.
