Case Can Drive In Massachusetts

Published: November 19, 2008 03:05 pm EST

According to a report, controversial and ultra-talented driver Walter Case, Jr. has been granted a license in the state of Massachusetts.

Case has been listed to drive in Races 1, 3, 4, 5 and 6 on Plainridge Racecourse's card of live racing scheduled for Friday, November 21.

Stan Bergstein of Harness Tracks of America broke the news in today's edition of the HTA daily newsletter. He stated that officials in Massachusetts have signed off on approving Case's return. "He has applied for his racing license and has received it," Bergstein wrote, "and USTA is being provided with copies of all pertinent papers tomorrow morning."

In September 2004, Case pleaded guilty to stabbing his estranged wife in the back with a steak knife during an incident that started at the couple's home on June 22. Case was released in October due to good behaviour.

First race post time Friday at Plainridge is 1:00 p.m. Click here to view Plainridge's Friday entries.

This had nothing to do with racing. You know what-----the man has done his time. Timmy Tetric,Searsy and Johnny Campbell will now have some competition come stakes season.Cause the man is a genious on a RACEHORSE.....PERIOD

Best of Luck to Casey! I'll be there on Friday to welcome an old friend back ! It's been a long time coming ! Keep Your head up Casey . Hope to be in the Winners Circle with You on Friday. Lucky Lloyd

A shame that this game is so intent on granting people who cant play by the rules to be reinstated. Yes, he is one of the greatest to drive a horse, no doubt about it!!! But at a time when this sport needs all the integrity it can get, to what benefit does this bring to the game? Attendance is declining, we rely on slots for purse structure, our top horses leave the racing scene for the breeding shed. We have a host of ultra talented drivers who represent our sport well, we need to build on this! How fair is it to those in the game who have kept their noses clean to reinstate a guy who cant play by the rules in life let alone the racing game. What does this say to the public? Just another example of how this sport cant seem to get out of its own way.

Great to see this talented Driver return.
Wishing Walter the very best.
Stay Positive Walter!

I wish him well !!!!!!!!!!God Keep your nose clean

Understandably the guy has done his time, and good for him to get out on good behavior and I am a believer in second chances. But it's very hard for me to understand how the racing commission has now forced other people to work with a convicted felon, someone who has tried to kill someone.

No matter where his mind was at the time, or what he was under the influence of at the time, he still crossed that line and there's always the chance it could happen again.
