The third annual Canadian Drivers Showcase hosted by the St. John's Racing & Entertainment Centre in beautiful St. John's, Newfoundland is set for Sunday, July 11

.

The Showcase offers Newfoundland & Labrador the chance to promote the sport of harness racing within the province and to showcase the driving talents of some of the best harness racing drivers in the country.

Trot Insider has learned that drivers Todd Trites, Brad Forward, Jody Jamieson, Mario Baillargeon, Scott Coulter, Phil Hudon, Simon Allard, Doug McNair and Mark MacDonald are expected to be taking part in the showcase.

Those in attendence not only get to watch Canada's talent race, but also get a chance meet the drivers, take pictures and collect autographs.

The feature race this year will be the 2010 Meridian Farms Pace for three-year-olds, and with an estimated purse of $5,000 it will be the largest in the history of the Showcase.

"We would like to say a very big thank you to Bill Andrew and Meridian Farms for their generous contribution and continued support," said organizer Scott Forward.

"There will be many more activities such as face painting, pony rides and this year we also have Thomas Amusements joining us. We will also have souvenir t-shirts and sweatshirts on hand for those who would like to purchase them and giveaways from not only our racetrack but many tracks throughout Ontario. We are working on many other events for the day and will make the announcement when things are confirmed."

As an added bonus to help spice up the day, Peter Kyte will be on hand to help with the announcing duties.

"As you can see we have a great lineup of drivers and events," said Forward. "This will be a day to remember!"

Forward also explained that Canada’s leading dash-winning trainer so far in 2010, Rene Allard, will be attending along with the 4-H Challenging Pioneers from St. John's.

Forward explained that a petting farm and information booth will be set up for those interested in the 4-H program.

4-H NL prides itself on instilling knowledge, leadership, citizenship and personal development upon the youth of the province. For more information on the 4-H program, contact Callista Silver at [email protected].
