Daylon Mystique Matches Hiawatha Record

Published: May 6, 2010 10:40 pm EDT

A 1:56.4 performance on Thursday evening at Hiawatha Horse Park not only earned Daylon Mystique her first win of the year, but it earned her a share of the track record

for older trotting mares.

Daylon Mystique laid down solid fractions of :27.4, :57.3 and 1:26.4 for trainer/driver Wayne Henry before trotting home in :30 seconds to seal the deal by more than four lengths. The performance equaled the track record set back in 2008 by Bet On Andrea.

A graduate of the Ontario Sires Stakes program, Daylon Mystique is now a 12-time winner and a career earner of close to $330,000. Dave Lemon of Komoka bred the trotter, who is owned by Henry Stable of Arthur and Dan McCann of Parkhill, ON.

Shawn, you must be from the city! It appears that you think everyone who enjoys racing is going to go to Toronto. Not.
Just because we live in a place with a smaller fan base,AKA betting base, does that mean we're not allowed to enjoy live racing?! Not to menton the fact that there seem to be a lot of horses available to race at the "B" tracks. Just check the entries page of this site. For Thursday May 13th there were 134 horses entered & 108 drawn. For this Sat., there were 107 horses entered, & 151 drawn.
Are you going to deny these horses, drivers ,owners, trainers, the chance to race? And what about the local fans? So maybe we're not all big bettors.
By the way, when the weather is good, and it's a Saturday night, the fans appear in droves. Of course,we don't have as large a fan base as TO does. Sarnia has only 75,000 people to draw from, not counting the small surrounding towns & the USA.

Just looking over hte results from Sarnia last night, the total handle for 10 races was just over $13000.00, the last race just broke $100 in the win pool, harness racing has become so dilluted its not funny anymore. Just a thought but why dont we reduce the B tracks to 3 with good purses and then race for the big bucks on the WEG circuit? We would showcase the best talent and actually race for the purses. I wonder if there were even 100 people at Hiawatha last night with those numbers.

I'm sure everyone in sarnia would not agree with you on that one.Not every one in racing is concerned about the WEG circuit racing for big bucks. Not everything reveolves around WEG.All those trainers and drivers that started on those B tracks probably appreciated a place to start and learn their trade, might not have gotten were they are today without that experience. Not every horse, driver or trainer is capable of racing at WEG.Going big isn't always better.Pushing more drivers, trainers, owners and fans out of the business is exactly the opposite of what the industry is trying to do right now.
