Brad Forward, Canada's representative at the World Driving Championship, is tied for the lead of the event after the first leg of competition at Bergen Travpark (Bergen Trotting Park) in Bergen, Norway

.

Forward competed in all four WDC events on the day. He started out with a fifth-place finish in the first race, and followed that up with a third-place finish in the second dash. Forward produced another fifth-place finish in the third of the WDC races, but rebounded in the final dash, as he hit the wire first and would later make his way to the winner's circle for a photo and interview.

"It's an honour to be able to represent Canada here at this beautiful racetrack," Forward told Trot Insider in the winner's circle afterward. "With the mountains and beautiful scenery here, it makes me feel like I'm back home in Newfoundland."

In regard to overall points after the first leg, Forward is tied with 2007 WDC winner Christophe Martens, representing Belgium. Both Forward and Martens currently have 35 points, while Birger Jorgensen, representing Denmark, sits third with 33 points.

Though both Forward and Martens are tied atop the leader board with 35 points, Martens was the 'driver of the day' for the first leg -- this is because in addition to Marten's win, he also had a second-place finish, while Forward had a third-place finish.

The second leg of the WDC will take place Friday, May 15 at Biri Travbane in Biri.
