Tonight at Western Fair Raceway Canada’s youngest harness horse owner, the grandson of one of Ontario’s top horsemen Ross Battin, will see his horse race

.

One can forgive Carter Wright if he doesn’t quite appreciate the significance of the event given that he is just five months old. Carter is the son of Marg and Ross Battin’s daughter Susan and her husband Mark Wright.

Ross Battin requires no introduction to harness racing fans in Ontario. The Monkton, Ontario horseman has been one of the most consistent drivers in the province for many years. He has been among the top 10 drivers at Western Fair for 25 years and has won four driving titles at the London half-mile oval. Battin is perennially one of the premier drivers in the Ontario Sires Stakes program and has won the Lampman Cup as the leading driver in the OSS. Lifetime he has won 4,610 races for well over $23 million in purse earnings.

Harness racing participants are constantly being urged to introduce young people to the sport and Battin obviously took that to heart bringing his young grandson Carter into horse ownership last month. The pair shares ownership of the four-year-old pacing mare Lady Jefferson who will go postward from post one in tonight’s fourth race at Western Fair.

Live video of the races and free program pages are available on the Western Fair website at www.westernfair.com.

What a proud Grandpa - and Mom looks pretty good too - of course Carter is the best of all. Congrats to all. Hope to see you all at the winners circle in the near future.

You're darn right that is one cute baby. Good luck to our newest member of our standardbred community.
