Officials have reportedly scratched nearly 40 horses for today's card at Truro Raceway due to a quarantine for concerns of strangles.
In today's Chronicle-Herald, a report states that at least two horses housed at the raceway are being tested for strangles, a highly contagious respiratory disease.
Raceway secretary Joe Kelly told reporters that the Maritime Provinces Harness Racing Commission made the decision to quarantine animals as a precautionary measure after initial test results on the two horses came back as inconclusive.
Dr. Paul Hogan of the MPHRC told Trot Insider that the results of further testing would be finalized sometime this week.

at least there was a decision made to protect these animals and all of the others that may have been in contact with this . there are other race tracks where there is a major out break and nothing was done, now every horse and farm has been exposed, involving both breeds here in alberta.
All the horses should not
All the horses should not have been allowed to race there today.the horses that have it should not be around other horses.

It is terrible that this track is still racing! I am lucky to have my horses stabled off the grounds but I cannot believe the choice to not get rid of todays race card. If these tests come back positive this is not going to be pretty. It is just crazy to race with 40 scratched horses when the card only took around 89
It is appalling that these
It is appalling that these horses are even allowed to race. Everyone knows where this suspected outbreak is and who is responsible for making these decisions. Hopefully for all concerned, the tests come back negative.
