Trot Insider has learned the connections of European trotting sensation Commander Crowe have officially accepted the invitation to compete in the 2012 Breeders Crown Open Trot set for next Saturday at Woodbine Racetrack in Toronto, Ont.
After finishing third in the 2011 Breeders Crown, Commander Crowe went on a tear in Europe in 2012 winning the Oslo Grand Prix and Elitlopp in May as well as the Kymi Grand Prix, Olympic Trot, Hugo Åbergs Memorial and Forus Open. The flashy nine-year-old son of Juliano Star boasts a record of 9-2-0 in 12 seasonal starts with earnings in excess of $1.58 million in those starts.
Commander Crowe won't have to deal with 2011 Open Trot winner San Pail this year but he will need to knock off another Breeders Crown winner: Chapter Seven, who won the three-year-old colt trot at Woodbine with driver Jeff Gregory.
With regular driver Christophe Martens aboard for trainer Fabrice Souloy, Commander Crowe will prep for next Saturday's start with the 2,575 metre Grand Prix du Sud-Ouest in France on Sunday, October 14 before shipping to Canada.
