West coast horseman Jim Marino is currently recovering from injuries sustained in a January 23 racing accident at Fraser Downs, and his friends in the tightly-knit racing community are calling all to come together to help him get back on his feet.

Marino was transported to hospital after being injured in Fraser Downs’ seventh race last Friday. Officials from Fraser Downs told Trot Insider that Marino suffered an injured wrist and left knee. The extent of his injuries are unknown at this time.

Members of the B.C. racing community have been quick to set up a fundraising effort for Marino, as ‘Burger And A Beer Night’ will be taking place on Sunday, March 1 at Samz Neighbourhood Pub, located at 19580 56 Avenue in Surrey.

The fundraising event will take place from 6 p.m. until close. For the cost of $25, attendees will be able to select fare from a fixed ‘burger and a bevy’ menu, which can be checked out by clicking here.

Organizers have stated that they are only able to sell 140 dinner tickets for the event. Therefore, if you do not think you will be able to attend but still want to help out with a donation, you can purchase raffle tickets for $25 with the chance to win prizes.

In addition to the raffle, there will also be a silent auction and a toonie toss (bring your toonies!).

Organizers have stated that donated auction items would be greatly appreciated. Items can be donated at the Fraser Downs race office or at Ty O’Neil’s tack room. Additionally, items can be donated by contacting Lexie McLaren O'Neill, Cindy Postnikoff, Emily Leak or Kelly Hudon.

If you are planning on donating items, please make sure to include all of your contact information when dropping off donation items.
