Newbie Drops And Pops
After struggling in back-to-back starts at Woodbine Racetrack, Newbie took his show on the road to London and capitalized on some class relief en route to posting a narrow win in the $7,500 Preferred 3 for pacers.
Scott Young worked out a pocket trip for Newbie, who stalked tempo-setting Blissfull Years through fractions of :28.3, :58.4 and 1:27.3. Newbie found clearance in the lane and used a :29-second closing quarter to prevail by a nose over Pay Later in 1:57. Blissfull Years was a lapped-on third.
Sent off as the even-money favourite, the five-year-old son of Always A Virgin-Nat A Tat Tat picked up his first win of the season while pushing his lifetime win total to 19 for owners Larry Ainsworth and William Boden. The Ian Hyatt trainee is closing in on $150,000 in lifetime earnings.
