Campbell Strong At Northlands
It was the ‘Brandon Campbell Show’ once again at Northlands Park on Saturday, January 28, as the horseman recorded five driving wins during the 11-race card, four of which came via starters from his own stable.
Campbell kicked things off in Race 3, as he and his six-year-old Northern Dynasty mare Smilys Amira came from off the pace and nailed the wire in 1:57.2 as the even-money choice.
He turned the trick again in Race 5 with another performer from his stable, the favoured Regina Beach, a six-year-old Brandons Cowboy gelding that went wire-to-wire from Post 1 and froze the timer in 1:57.2.
Campbell’s third win of the afternoon, in Race 6, came with another one of his pupils, Eliseuinthedust, a six-year-old Brandons Cowboy mare that propelled off an early pocket trip to post a 1:56.3 victory as the post time choice.
He was back at it in Race 8 with the odds-on choice Sudden Storm from Post 6. The four-year-old son of Allamerican Navajo was up for the task and made every pole a winning one before nailing the wire much the best in 1:59.
Campbell capped off his Saturday victories in Race 10 by notching his fifth driving win and fourth training triumph of the day with Dontmesswithjim. The four-year-old son of Big Jim was sent away at 40 cents on the dollar and got the job done from Post 1. The bay was first at every call and nailed the wire in 1:57.4.
The program’s feature race (Race 9) carried a $9,000 purse, and it was trainer/driver Kelly Hoerdt who wired up the field with the second post time choice, Get Thereovernight. The six-year-old Clintons Cigar gelding started from Post 5, was first at every call, and stopped the clock in 1:54.4.
