Kaitlyn Rae Defeats Buffalo Distaffers
On Wednesday (January 25) night, Kaitlyn Rae used a late rush to win the $10,000 Fillies and Mares Open Pace at Buffalo Raceway.
The first :59.3 half-mile was uneventful as the horses stayed in post position order with favourite Artzia Hanover on the lead. By the time the horses reached the backstretch the second time around, they were three-wide. Ben McNeil kept Artizia Hanover on the lead til the top of the stretch before the top three finishers rushed by her. Driver/owner Larry Stalbaum sent the eight-year-old Cheyenne Rei mare Kaitlyn Rae down the center of the track to put her in the winner's circle, finishing just ahead of The Filly Princess and My Talia Ideal in 1:59.1.
Stalbaum and trainer Kim Asher teamed up to win four races on the night.
