Escuela ‘Schools’ Them In London
Despite being assigned the dreaded seven-hole in Tuesday’s $11,000 Preferred 2 Handicap at The Raceway at Western Fair District, Escuela rallied for an impressive victory in the featured tilt for trotters.
Escuela got away fifth in the eight-horse affair for driver Ed Hensley, who watched Delcrest Massy march to the lead and throw down fractions of :29, :58.1 and 1:28. Escuela started a first-over rally on the way to the half, and she found herself sitting second as the field traveled into the final quarter of the contest. Her :31.1 closing panel was more than enough to earn her the win by 1-3/4 lengths over Bella Palazzo in 1:59.4. Azucar took home the show dough.
Trainer Ashleigh Hensley shares ownership on the seven-year-old daughter of ABC Garland-Donven Fury with her sulky-sitting hubby, and together they watched the mare lift her lifetime earnings to $235,884 with the win. It was the first victory of the season for the 29-time winner.
