Hat Trick For Goldstar Badlands
Goldstar Badlands was the last horse to the quarter pole in Monday’s $11,000 Preferred 2 Handicap for horse and gelding pacers, but he was the first one to the finish for driver Scott Young.
Young got away sixth with Goldstar Badlands, who watched Tomitta Bayama cut out fractions of :27.4, :57.4 and 1:26.4. Young had his charge on the move going to the half, and after tracking cover behind Lets Wait And See the Heather Toll trainee fired three-wide going to the three-quarter pole. That move turned out to be the winning one as Goldstar Badlands then used a :30 final frame to win by 1-1/4 lengths over Thorn In Your Side in 1:57.3. Tomitta Bayama was third.
Morley Bradshaw of Wilsonville, Ont. owns the seven-year-old son of Badlands Hanover-Rockin Lady who extended his winning streak to three-in-a-row with the win. The 23-time winner is closing in on $170,000 in lifetime earnings.
Think On It was a popular winner in the $7,500 Preferred 3 for horse and gelding pacers. The gelding was fifth and parked at the quarter pole, but he swept to the lead before taking the field through middle fractions of :59.3 and 1:28.4 for driver Scott Coulter. A :29.1 kicker earned the Bob McIntosh trainee the win by 1-1/2 lengths over Deseronto in 1:58. Taking home third prize was Stoney Durkin.
Robert McIntosh Stables Inc, Dave Boyle and James Walker own the four-year-old son of Ponder-Breathtacular who won for the second time this season and for the eighth time in his career. The homebred has stashed away more than $80,000 to date.
