Wildcat Cam Pounces In Rideau Feature
Wildcat Cam ($6.10) hauled down race favourite Killer Thriller in the final strides to win Sunday night's featured $6,800 Winners Over Handicap Pace at Rideau Carleton Raceway.
Wildcat Cam got the first call in the featured seventh race, but settled for the pocket trip behind even-money favourite Killer Thriller, who had the inner advantage leaving the gate. Killer Thriller led the way through fractions of :27.1, :57.2 and 1:28 while a parked out Shadow Newton challenged early on but eventually threw in the towel. However, Tyler Moore tipped Wildcat Cam out at the head of the stretch and the six-year-old Camluck gelding collared Killer Thriller in the shadow of the wire for the 1:57 victory. A And C Artist finished six lengths behind in third.
Wildcat Cam is now two-for-three in 2017 for trainer Jamie Copley and co-owner Ryan Copley, both of Kenmore, Ont. The win was his 21st lifetime and bumped his bankroll to $84,059.
Moore and Copley teamed up for back-to-back wins on the card as Future Shark ($2.20) downed his rivals by more than 13 lengths in the sixth race.
