Update: No Contest Due To Gate Issue
Fraser Downs' ninth race was declared a 'No Contest' on Friday night (January 13) and wagers were refunded due to a starting gate malfunction.
The starting gate vehicle did not appear to accelerate as the wings closed and it released the field at the start of the race impeding multiple horses.
Officials at Elements Casino confirmed with Trot Insider that there was an unfortunate problem with the fuel line in the starting gate car that resulted in the unfair start.
The horses and drivers were not injured and did proceed to complete the race, but judges ultimately declared the race a 'No Contest' in fairness to the wagering public. Most wagers were refunded, with the multi-race Pick 4 paying out for a 2-6-6-ALL combination.
The track's back up car was used for the evening's finale in which four-year-old pacing mare Tahiti Seelster went wire-to-wire in 1:55.2 to earn her sixth straight victory and remain undefeated since arriving in B.C. this past fall. Serge Masse drove the daughter of Up The Credit for trainer Nelson Craig, whose stable went two-for-two on the night.
