Getting A Taste Of The O’Briens
This past week the O’Brien Award organizers and the I Love Canadian Harness Racing Fan Club’s taste testing contest winner Scott Lecain of Rockwood, Ont. headed to the Hilton Mississauga / Meadowvale Hotel to determine the menu for the 2016 O’Brien Awards Black Tie Gala.
The host hotel’s award winning chef, Robert Davey prepared some delectable culinary creations for the group to try out. After sampling several soups and salads, three different entrees and several mouthwatering desserts, the menu was finalized.
Born on the west coast of British Columbia, the masterful Chef Davey brought his trademark winter style of cooking which encompasses a focus on braised meats and hearty vegetables to Ontario with his family.
Chef Davey explained during the taste testing that a good number of the items were custom created for our audience and the O’Brien Awards dinner.
Scott who was chosen as one of the “official” taste testers has been involved with harness racing his entire life. After starting his day off training horses at First Line Training Centre in Guelph, Ontario he headed to Mississauga to enjoy an afternoon of fine dining.
“I would like to thank Standardbred Canada and everyone involved with the O’Brien Awards for a wonderful opportunity to meet some great people and sample some of the finest dishes that the chef had to offer. I know that no matter which dishes get chosen the vast majority of people at this year’s event will be very satisfied with what is being offered.”
This year we can once again promise that your taste buds will be treated! The final menu will be revealed at the O’Brien Awards on Saturday, January 28.
