Phone Terror Triples In Mares Open
Following two straight victories in December, Phone Terror resumed her winning ways in the New Year with a 1:55.2 triumph in the $11,000 Fillies & Mares Open Pace on Friday night (January 6) at Fraser Downs.
Phone Terror advanced from fifth on the way to the third quarter mark and held off the tracking longshot, Diva Las Vegas, in a neck decision. The winner's stablemate, Somewhere A Place, closed from last and finished two lengths behind in third.
Meanwhile, outside leaver Part Time Lady, who was prompted through a :27.1 opening quarter and held command through middle splits of :57.4 and 1:26.1, finished fifth in the six-horse field.
Sent postward at odds of 2-5, Phone Terror paid $2.90 to win as the race favourite.
Serge Masse trains and drives the Western Terror-Miss Lex mare, who is owned by Lucy Raymond of Edmonton, Alta. The eight-year-old pacing mare now boasts 46 career wins and more than $480,000 in earnings.
Masse also scored with another streaking mare, Tahiti Seelster, who is now five-for-five at Fraser Downs since being acquired by local trainer Nelson Craig and co-owner Richard Craig in late-October. The four-year-old Ontario-bred daughter of Up The Credit and Titania Seelster took a new lifetime mark of 1:54 with a dominant victory in a $7,700 fillies and mares conditioned pace.
