Newcomers To The Island Sport
Pinette Raceway is going to be a busy place on July 16 and 17 when the picturesque track will have the privilege of introducing the children of newcomers to Canada the joys of horses and harness racing
.
Fifty children aged from five to 17 will be bused to Pinette each of the two days by the association for Newcomers. They will receive hands-on instruction on working with horses, harnessing and driving, will have some fun with 'bouncy ponies' and learn how to play horseshoes. The two days are sponsored jointly by the PEI Harness Racing Industry Association, Pinette Raceway and the Matinee Racetrack Development Project.
The PEI Association for Newcomers to Canada is an immigrant support organization which provides many important services to first-generation Canadians. They have a whole summer of interesting events planned for the young people, including this introduction to an Island tradition.
