Cameron Suffers Heart Attack
When Summerside Raceway opens its 2009 season in its new facilities on Canada Day, the voice of Prince Edward Island harness racing will be missing
.
Vance Cameron, 49, of Summerside, who does the race calls at both Summerside and Charlottetown Driving Park Entertainment Centre, was admitted to Prince County General Hospital on Monday, June 29 after suffering a heart attack at his home.
Cameron was being treated in the intensive care unit.
Lee Drake, director of marketing and promotion for Harness Racing PEI, said the track operators were attempting to find a replacement announcer for the Summerside opener and were concerned about how long Cameron would be on the sidelines.
Harness racing is entering its busiest season on Prince Edward Island with Lobster Carnival Week at Summerside scheduled for July 12-16 and Old Home Week racing getting underway in mid-August.
“You just don’t find any one who can do the job like Vance,” Drake said.
Noted for his colourful descriptions of the horses in action, Cameron has been doing the race call at both tracks for the past 10 years. He had to take several months off a couple of years ago when he developed a type of throat cancer.
He fully recovered from that treatment.
Please join Standardbred Canada in wishing Vance Cameron a quick and complete recovery.

But we still bounce your name around from time to time. Take care and our best to you and your family.
