Get Thereovernight Wires Open Pacers
Get Thereovernight rebuffed a third quarter challenge from Somewhereinmexico to win this week's $10,000 Open Pace at Northlands Park on Saturday night (December 17).
Get Thereovernight quickly crossed in front of Western Canada Pacing Derby champion Appellate (Keith Clark) and held a commanding lead through opening panels of :28.2 and :57.4. At the midway mark, Somewhereinmexico (David Kelly) went on the attack from third and moved up within a half-length of the leader as they raced by three-quarters in 1:26.2. However, Get Thereovernight drew clear of his challenger in the final turn and opened up three and a half lengths before hitting the wire in 1:56 flat over the frozen track. Somewhereinmexico stayed for second while Blue Star Jet (Mike Hennessy) came on for third over 8-5 favourite Appellate.
Get Thereovernight was the 2-1 second favourite and paid $6.50 to win.
Trainer/driver Kelly Hoerdt and partners Peter Giannakopoulos and Blair Corbeil share ownership of the Clintons Cigar-Express Overnite gelding, who earned his second win of the year.
