George Cheyne Passes

Lifelong standardbred horseman George Cheyne of Bright, Ont. passed away on Tuesday, December 13 at his family farm at the age of 85.

Active as a trainer, driver, breeder and owner, George was originally from Malton, Ont. before settling on his Cheyneville farm just outside of Bright. He raced at the original Old Woodbine, Garden City, Greenwood and numerous other tracks across southwestern Ontario over the years.

Horses raised by Cheyne carried his farm's Cheyneville prefix.

He is survived by his wife of over 60 years, June Cheyne, six children and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Funeral visitation will take place on Sunday, December 18 from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. at Brock and Visser Funeral Home in Woodstock, Ont., with the funeral to follow at Brock and Visser on Monday, December 19 at 2:00 p.m.
