Young Wins Five Races At Flamboro
Driver Scott Young was the star of the show at Flamboro Downs on Wednesday evening (November 30) winning five of his six drives on the program.
Young kicked off his winning crusade with an 18-1 upset aboard trotter Chuckalo Caden ($38.20), who crossed to command from the outside post eight and held on to win by a head in the opener for trainer/co-owner Clare Chuck Thompson. Young completed a sweep of the early Daily Double in rein to the front-striding sophomore pacing filly Premier Karisma ($4.90) for his father, trainer Bob Young.
The Guelph, Ont. reinsman then drove a pair of winners for the Ben Wallace stable as pacing mare Leaving A Legacy ($6.60) inherited a victory in the seventh dash when the race leader Ideal Fantasy was placed for causing interference in the stretch. In the ninth race, inside starter A Plus ($2.60) retook the lead early on and fronted the field of Preferred 3 pacing mares the rest of the way to post a four-length victory in 1:56.1 over the sloppy track.
Young put the exclamation mark on his big night in the 11th race finale as he made a quarter-pole move to loop the favourite and drew off by six lengths with Kelly Sheppard's pacing mare Dapple Apple ($16.30).
The evening's featured $10,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred 2 Handicap Pace went to Pinky Tuscadero ($6.70), who won by two and three-quarters lengths in 1:56.2 after wearing down pacesetter HP Sissy for the Horner brothers. Mark Horner trains and co-owns the four-year-old Artistic Fella mare with his wife Stephanie while Mike Horner worked out the winning trip.
