Grand Slam For Andreios Kardia
Since returning to his native land Andreios Kardia has been untouchable in the Preferred ranks on the WEG circuit.
The five-year-old son of Badlands Hanover-Nexus Seelster reeled off his fourth consecutive victory Saturday evening thanks to an impressive performance in the $34,000 Preferred Pace at Woodbine Racetrack.
Doug McNair got away third with Andreios Kardia, who watched race favourite Traceur Hanover fire to the front and supply an opening quarter clocked in :27.1. McNair had his charge on the move before they hit the backstretch, and the gelding touched down on the lead just after the half flashed up in :55.1.
Andreios Kardia sped the field to the three-quarter pole in 1:22.4 before using a :28-second closing quarter to prevail by half a length over Nickle Bag. Taking home third prize in the six-horse affair was Alexas Jackpot.
Jeff ‘Tiki Barber’ Byron trains the homebred for Ina Madill of Innisfil, Ont. The win improved the pacer’s 2016 record to 12-4-2 from 24 trips to the track. The 19-time winner has banked in excess of $230,000 to date.
