Freddie Rebounds In Open Trot
Freddie rebounded in the $1,850 Open Handicap Trot after breaking stride last time out to post a dominant victory on Saturday (November 19) at Charlottetown Driving Park.
Freddie had just the early breaker (also last week's winner) Osprey Impact beat before rushing up from fifth to overtake leader Thunderaway at the third quarter mark. He then trotted off to a seven-length victory in 2:00.1. Thunderaway (Jason Hughes) held on for second over Holy Molie Maggie (Gary Chappell).
Since his arrival in P.E.I. in May, the four-year-old Majestic Son gelding has earned 13 wins while racing in the Open ranks at Charlottetown for trainer/driver Marc Campbell and the Three Wisemen Stable. His 15 victories overall in 2016 ranks third in all of North America for wins by a trotter, behind Hannelore Hanover (17) and Mama Made Me Blue (18).
The victory was one of three on the card for Campbell, who now has 126 driving wins this year at Charlottetown Driving Park and is just four away from matching the track's single-season win record that he set in 2012.
In the afternoon's opener, Wendy Macrae earned her first career training win with Pictonian Stardust ($12.70). Vaughan Doyle drove the four-year-old pacing mare to a half-length victory in 2:04.2.
