Ufdragons Rocket Prevails In Close Call
Ufdragons Rocket ($10.20) nosed out defending champion Saulsbrook Peach in a photo finish to win Sunday night's featured $11,000 Preferred 2 Pace at Flamboro Downs.
Ufdragons Rocket ended his string of three straight runner-up finishes -- including a three-quarter-length finish behind Saulsbrook Peach last weekend -- with Phil Hudon catch-driving for trainer Richard Moreau.
Last through a :55 first half, Ufdragons Rocket flushed out Saulsbrook Peach (Robert Shepherd) from mid-pack on the way to the 1:24 third quarter mark and reached up in deep stretch to nab the 1:53.4 victory. Goldstar Badlands (J Harris), the longest shot on the board at 16-1, rallied from the backfield to finish one length behind the top pair in third.
Ufdragons Rocket has hit the board in 23 of his 39 starts this year while earning $73,660. The win was his sixth of the season and 26th lifetime.
The seven-year-old Dragon Again gelding is owned by 5527920 Manitoba Ltd. of Niagara On The Lake, Ont.
Sunday night's $7,500 Preferred 3 was won by Diggin In ($4.20), who took the lead by the quarter-pole and rolled home in 1:54.1 with Bob McClure along for the ride. The four-year-old Skydancer Hanover gelding earned his third win in a row at Flamboro for trainer Rob Fellows and Alberta owners Mike McAllister and Blair Corbeil.
