Campbell Approaching Win Record
It was the Marc Campbell show on Sunday (November 13) at Red Shores Charlottetown and it was capped off with a feature race win with Eagle Jolt.
The Winsloe, P.E.I. resident capped off a grand slam with the nine-year-old son of Village Jolt winning the $2,300 Preferred. Minor Wisdom rocked the gate and laid down cut throat :27.3 and :57 fractions before the pocket-sitting Simon Said took over the lead. Drivingthedragon pushed the pace past three-quarters in 1:25.4 and took over the lead in mid-stretch before Eagle Jolt came on to nose her out in 1:56.2.
The win was the 10th on the season for the veteran pacer, who will be a candidate for local Aged Pacer of the Year with over $15,000 in the bank in 2016 for owners Wilbur and Marie MacDonald.
The ‘Campbell Watch’ was in full swing on Sunday as he closes in on his 2012 dash title for most wins in a single season at Red Shores. Campbell drove into Sunday's card with 119 seasonal winners and, with the grand slam, he moved to 123, just seven wins away.
The Campbell show started early with his own trainee Island Energetic scoring in race one. He followed up with Elm Grove Kaboom for Larry and Kathy Chappell in race three. Woodmere Terror, a first-time Campbell trainee, also scored a front-end victory to give Campbell a training triple on the day and give him a new-seasonal best for most wins in a single season as a trainer at 58.
Veteran reinsmen Kenny Arsenault enjoyed a driving double on the card scoring with American Captain from his own stable and with Kayas Sweetheart for Ralph Sweet.
The afternoon handle was $26,618 on the 14-dash card. Racing returns to Red Shores Charlottetown next Saturday with a 12:30 start.
