Suzys Solitaire Upsets; Five For Dowling

Suzys Solitaire pulled off a 10-1 upset in the Wednesday evening Sudbury Downs feature - the $11,000 Not Listed Preferred Trot - while driver David Dowling dominated the 11-race program with a handful of wins

Suzy Solitaire, an eight-year-old gelded son of Feel Like A Winner, sat in fourth for most of the mile while Roan Star (Wayne MacLean) and favourite Zorgwijk Fortunate (Rick Baker) battled on top through the middle panels. Under trainer Allan Hohner’s guidance, Suzy then moved three-wide at the third quarter station and charged home for the win in 1:59.4.

Donald Rankin (Paul Maclean) finished three-quarter lengths back in second while Charlie O Charlie (Gerry Belanger) rounded out the top three.

The victory was Suzys Solitaire’s third of the year in 15 tries and 29th of her career. The winner of over $286,000 is owned by David Haney of Waterloo and Lawrence Smith of Elmira, Ont.

In other action, driver David Dowling enjoyed a five-win performance on the card. The resident of Perry Sound, Ont. teamed up with trainer Mike Lamoureux for three of those wins; Twitterpated (1:59), Go Easy On Me (1:59.1) and Its Art To Believe (1:59.4).

Dowling also guided his own pupil No Competition (1:57.2) to victory as well as Kritzer Hanover (1:59) for trainer Adelard Carriere bringing his yearly win total to 39. Lifetime, Dowling has recorded 524 wins earning over $2.7 million in earnings.
