Question 1 Defeated In New Jersey
On Tuesday, voters in the state of New Jersey rejected a plan to expand casinos to the northern part of the state -- a measure that was heavily endorsed by the state's horse racing industry.
Ballot question 1, which would allow the state legislature to approve casinos in two more counties in New Jersey, received around 75 percent of votes against the casino expansion.
While the question may not be placed back before voters for at least two years, some state legislators are looking at a plan that would add slots to Meadowlands Racetrack and Monmouth. They would be classified as video lottery terminals and run as a product of the state lottery.
