American Passion Scores In Photo Finish
Alberta invader American Passion and driver Travis Bowman prevailed in a four-way photo finish to post a 12-1 upset in the $10,500 Fillies & Mares Open Pace at Fraser Downs on Friday night (November 4).
In her Fraser Downs debut, 20-time winner American Passion and Bowman followed in fourth-place before angling to the far outside down the stretch and getting up in time to score the 1:54.4 victory by a nose. Jabas Luck (Jim Marino) had moved first-up from third during the third panel and gained the slight advantage at the wire over 15-1 longshot leader Part Time Lady (Paul Davies), who had crossed to command from the outside post eight and carved out fractions of :27.1, :56.3 and 1:25.2. Skade (John Abbott) ended up fourth in the photo finish after closing inside off a pocket trip.
American Passion returned $27.60 for a $2 Win ticket and led a $114.90 Exactor, $3,920.70 Triactor and $6,987.05 Superfecta.
Brandon Campbell trains the six-year-old mare by American Ideal out of Felicia Hanover for owner Raymond Henry of Calgary, Alta. She now has seven wins this year to go along with 13 other top-three finishes and over $61,000 in purse earnings from 30 starts.
