Faves Foiled In London Preferreds
A set of Preferred events went postward Monday evening at The Raceway at Western Fair District, and the favourites failed to come through in each of the $7,500 contests.
Rainbow Gold romped to an easy victory in the Preferred 3 for trotters, winning by 7-1/4 lengths in 1:58.3.
The Ashleigh Duford trainee roared to the top from Post 5 and never looked back through panels of :29, :59.1 and 1:28.2. A :30.1 closing panel was more than enough for the veteran to defeat LMC Marshmellow and Were Rolling.
Owner Dennis Duford mapped out the winning trip for the nine-year-old son of Thunder Road-Incredible Gold. The victory was the eighth of the year and the 41st to date for the career winner in excess of $220,000.
The Preferred 3 for horse and gelding pacers went to Goldstar Badlands, who overcame Post 7 and posted a 9-1 upset for trainer Heather Toll.
J Harris got away fourth with his charge before tracking cover in the middle stages of the mile. Tomitta Bayama rolled the group through fractions of :27.4, :56.2 and 1:25.4, but he couldn’t seal the deal. Goldstar Badlands fired three-wide going to the three-quarter pole and his :30.1 closing kick earned him the win by 1-3/4 lengths over Tomitta Bayama in 1:56.1. Bugger Max was third.
Morley Bradshaw of Wilsonville, Ont. owns the six-year-old son of Badlands Hanover-Rockin Lady. The 19-time winner improved this year’s record to 5-1-5 from 19 trips postward. The $3,750 payday bumped the gelding’s bankroll to $148,996.
