Sterling Cooper Resumes Streak In B.C.
In his return to Fraser Downs on Sunday (October 30), Open pacer Sterling Cooper extended his win streak to six in a row for trainer Brandon Campbell and local owner Jeffrey Elchuk.
In Sunday's featured $10,500 Open Pace, Sterling Cooper attempted to lead from post four and was strung out by Pillage And Burn (Jim Marino) through a :26.4 first quarter before touching down on the front for driver David Hudon. The 4-5 favourite took a second quarter breather to the half in :56.1 and began to open up two lengths on top during the third panel before Illwinifican (Dennis Johnston) drew up alongside to challenge past three-quarters in 1:24.4 while the late-closers came from all directions heading into the stretch. However, Sterling Cooper held on to score the 1:54.1 victory by a head. Bettor In The Bank (John Chappell) closed widest of all to grab the runner-up honours while Four Diamonds (Paul Davies) closed through the passing lane to finish half a length back in third. Illwinifican finished less than a length behind in fourth.
Sterling Cooper, who began his current win streak on August 7 at Century Downs, has now won 11 of his 21 starts in his eight-year-old campaign while banking $61,675. He paid $3.90 to win.
Lifetime, the Camluck-Babyremembermyname gelding boasts 42 victories and earnings totalling $269,423.
In other Sunday action, John Chappell enjoyed a training/driving triple with wins aboard Krystal Pistol ($19.80), My Boss ($3.60), and Alley Scat ($6.30).
