House On Fire

Lorne House's Toronto Blue Jays may have gone cold this past week, but House was on fire at Leamington Raceway on Sunday afternoon.

He started his streak in the fourth race coming from last with longshot Howdy Partner ($12.60) to win by a head in 1:59.4, downing multiple Leamington winner Spago Hall, who ended up third. Howdy Partner is owned and trained by Craig "Pockets" Malott of Windsor, Ont.

House won his second of the day with Squirt ($4.30) in 2:00.3 for Barbara Dinning of Harrow, and trainer Howard Dinning. In this one, Squirt got away fifth, pulled just past the quarter to be parked the rest of the way, and just get up in time to win by a neck over the front-running Nick Steward-driven Chantilly Rose.

The capper of the day came in the feature race, driving his wife's Sandburg Hanover ($6.60) in a wire-to-wire performance in 1:58.2, a head over Oldfriendskentucky.

As for the cold Blue Jays he follows, he was quoted as saying his "Toronto Maple Leafs will now have to pick up the slack!"

The final card of Leamington's 13 week meet comes to a close next Sunday with a Halloween costume contest for prizes. Post time is 1:30 p.m.
