Elegant Serenity Retired
The connections of four-year-old trotting mare Elegant Serenity have announced that the multiple stakes winner has been retired from racing.
Doug Millard's homebred Kadabra mare out of the two-time O'Brien Award-winning mare Elegantimage spent her winters in Florida in training with Sandra Burns and was campaigned throughout her racing career by trainer/driver Roger Mayotte. She earned eight wins, three second-place finishes and seven thirds from 30 career starts while amassing $511,173 in purses.
Elegant Serenity flourished under Mayotte's care during her sophomore campaign in which she won half of her 12 races, including the Simcoe Stakes in a lifetime mark of 1:53.2 at Mohawk Racetrack. She also won a division of the Casual Breeze and was a two-time Ontario Sires Stakes Gold champion and runner-up in the Super Final by just a neck. In the Elegantimage Stakes, named for her dam, she finished third behind world champion fillies Mission Brief and Wild Honey. With $425,652 in earnings, Elegant Serenity ended her three-year-old season as the top money-earner of her division in Canada.
The highlight of her four-year-old season was a victory in a leg of the Miss Versatility Series at Mohawk.
"She was probably the best gaited trotter that I've trained or driven," Mayotte told Trot Insider. "Winning the Simcoe was the highlight race for me, but I think her best race was the Super Final out of the 10-hole where she got beat a neck. She had a habit of drawing bad posts in most of her big money races."
During her career, Elegant Serenity contributed to The Stable That God Loves, a fundraising initiative, with a small percentage of her earnings donated to the Standardbred Racetrack Chaplaincy of Canada.
Elegant Serenity has been retired at Spring Haven Farm with the intent to breed her to Muscle Hill should a breeding be secured.
