New Video Lottery Terminal Push In NJ

New Jersey Assemblyman Ralph Caputo has said that he plans to amend two pieces of legislation to authorize video lottery terminals at state racetracks.

According to an article on CBS Philly, Caputo introduced the bills this past January and they have sat untouched to this point.

Caputo has said that he plans on amending the pieces of legislation so a referendum would not have to be conducted for their passage. He has said that he is going to cite a 1982 opinion piece by a former state attorney general that VLTs would not need an amendment to the state constitution in order to be legal.

Caputo has said that, to the average customer, a VLT is the same thing as a slot machine.

“It’s the same thing,” he was quoted as saying. “If it looks like a duck and walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it’s a duck.”
