Big Surf Makes Waves In Charlottetown
Big Surf captured the Saturday night (October 15) top class at Red Shores Racetrack & Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park. The mile was an incredible 1:53.4.
Driven by Corey MacPherson, Big Surf blasted off the starting gate and posted heated fractions of :26.4 to the opening quarter with the half reached in 56 seconds while the three-quarter frame flashed up at 1:24.3. The 2-5 favourite recorded his third win in a row and fifth on the season for trainer Trevor Hicken and owners Perry, Luke and Robin Burke. Drivingthedragon N was second in the contest with All Turain third.
The program also featured the Maritime Breeders eliminations for two and three-old trotters. Wicked Nick (2:05.3), under command of Gary Chappell, and Windemerepartyman (2:06.1), with Jack Panting driving, won their respective two-year-old assignments while Southfield Storm (Terry Gallant, 2:02.3) and Oceanview Pancho (MacPherson, 2:00.2) won their three-year-old eliminations.
Kenny Arsenault recorded a driving double with back-to-back winning performances with The Big Bite, trained by Thane Arsenault, and Dees Boy, owned by David Kent. Arsenault is 43 victories away from career win 3,000.
MacPherson, Marc Campbell and Jason Hughes, fresh off his third-place finish at the National Driving Championship in London, Ont. on Friday night, also notched two winners each.
