Rookie Trotters In Autumn Battle
Twelve trotting fillies from this year’s rookie class squared off in a set of $16,000 divisions of the Autumn Series during Monday evening’s card at Mohawk Racetrack, with Powerful Mission and Lady Eagle posting impressive victories in their respective assignments.
Powerful Mission won as she pleased in the opening split for driver Phil Hudon and trainer Kevin St. Charles. The daughter of Manofmanymissions-The Power Of Magic got away fourth while Jilona shot to the top and supplied first half fractions of :28.2 and :59. Powerful Mission came first over on the way to the mid-way point, and she showed a short lead while racing on the outside at the three-quarter pole in 1:28.1. A :29-second closing quarter helped propel Powerful Mission to the win by 4-3/4 lengths over Jilona in 1:57.1. You Cant Afford Me was third.
E C S Racing LLC of Rockford, MI owns the freshman who improved her record to 3-1-0 from nine tries. The $8,000 payday lifted her earnings to $31,200.
Lady Eagle captured the second division in what was a ‘breakfest’. Sylvain Filion got away fourth with the Rob Fellows trainee while Justice For Eva found the front and carved out fractions of :30.1, 1:01 and 1:31.2. Lady Eagle moved first-over on the way to the three-quarter pole, and she summoned up a final quarter of :29 to draw clear by 3-1/4 lengths over Princess Julieann in 2:00.2. Taking home third prize was Gaelic Lass.
The homebred daughter of Muscle Mass-Leather Hocklear now boasts a 3-1-1 record from just six starts for owners Mark King and Caroll Huffman of Sigourney, IA. The filly has banked $13,775 to date.
