McClure Sweeps Flamboro Preferreds
Picking up the catch-drive behind Rise Up Now ($8.30), Bob McClure sent the Richard Moreau trainee down the road to win the featured $11,000 Preferred 2 Pace on Sunday night (October 9) at Flamboro Downs.
Rise Up Now left quickly to establish the lead from post four and he set fractions of :26.4, :54.4 and 1:23.2 on the way to a 1:54 victory. As Thorn In Your Side (Travis Henry) tipped out of the pocket heading into the stretch, Mckinney (Denis St Pierre) came through inside to win the close race for place. The 3-5 favourite, Im The Pied Piper (Travis Cullen), finished fourth.
Rise Up Now has earned four victories this year and $56,130 in purses over 28 starts. The four-year-old Somebeachsomewhere gelding is owned by Bradley Grant of Milton, Ont.
McClure also won the $7,500 Preferred 3 with Arrived Late ($6.50) for trainer Craig Gilmour and owners Brett Wright of Hamilton, Ont. and Connor Wright of Dundas, Ont. The five-year-old Million Dollar Cam gelding arrived at the wire just in time to prevail in a three-way finish over Counter Strike and Windsong Leo in 1:53.4.
In addition to sweeping the featured events, McClure drove winners Acefortyfourtalon ($2.90) and P L Jackson ($2.60) as part of a Sunday night grand slam.
