Multiple Wins For Roy And Tessier
Louis-Philippe Roy and Yves Tessier were the leading driver and trainer of the night on a foggy Sunday (October 2) at Rideau Carleton Raceway.
Roy and Tessier teamed up for three victories on the 13-race card, beginning with a sweep of the early Daily Double with the streaking Dali On Up ($2.50) and Torches Angel ($7.70), who are both owned by Francois Morin of Beauceville, Que. They also joined forces to win the eighth race with Big Ricky ($2.90).
Roy, who also won the fourth race aboard Yaaahooo Kwik ($7.20) for trainer Gerard Demers, went on to record his fifth victory of the night in the ninth dash catch-driving Y S Joe ($9.30) for the Jean Beaulieu stable.
Roy entered the day in a tie atop the local driver standings with Guy Gagnon, but the five-win performance allowed him to pull ahead. He now has 99 wins at Rideau this year while Gagnon has 95.
Gagnon's lone victory of the night occurred in the co-featured $6,950 Winners Over Handicap Trot as the Rideau returnee Unabating ($3.40) held off defending class champion Maximus Deo by a neck in 1:56.1. The eight-year-old Broadway Hall gelding, owned by Catheline Pelletier of Mirabel, Que., gave Demers the double and put the trainer's season-leading win total at 70.
In the matching pacing division, A And C Artist ($14.50) rallied home off the cover of favourite Bali and defeated that foe by one and three-quarter lengths in 1:53.3 while pacesetter Viper Select finished third. Ted MacDonald drove the six-year-old Real Artist gelding for owner/trainer Luc Loyer of Gatineau, Que.
