Blue Boy In Open; Seven For Bartlett
Blue Boy stacked widest of all Saturday night, then stuck his tongue out at just the right time to grab Yonkers Raceway's $44,000 Open Handicap Pace
.
Leaving from penultimate post position No. 7, Blue Boy (Jason Bartlett) was content to take a sloppy seat while Rare Jewel (Bully Dobson) and 7-5 favourite Jeremys Successor (Ryan Anderson) alternated the advantage through inclement intervals of :27.2 and :55.1. Classic Line N (Cat Manzi) tried it first-over going toward the 1:24 three-quarters, with Psilvuheartbreaker (Jim Meittinis) second-up and Blue Boy behind that one.
"Jeremy" owned a length-and-a-half lead into the lane before the wet walls caved in. Psilvuheartbreaker went by in mid-stretch, but Blue Boy was moving a bit faster. He snapped "Heartbreaker" at the wire, winning by a nose in 1:53.1. Special Report (Larry Stalbaum) closed from last to grab third with an inside rally.
Jeremys Successor and Rare Jewel lasted for the small change.
For Blue Boy, a four-year-old Real Artist gelding trained by Julie Miller for Mack Racing Stables, he returned $19 (sixth choice) for his 10th win in 19 seasonal starts. The exacta paid $259, with the triple--the three outside starters in a handicapped field--returning $1,204.
Bartlett, the Raceway's leading driver, authored seven wins--driving in all 13 races--after winning six races this past Monday night.
New York Sire Stakes action resumes at Yonkers Tuesday night, with the $219,800 New Rochelle Trot for three-year-old fillies. There are five divisions, including two off the wagering card.
