Gordon Sherwin Passes

After a long and rich life, Gord Sherwin passed away at Northumberland Hills Hospital on Saturday, September 3 at the age of 92.

Beloved husband of the late Marion (nee Deviney). Robert Sherwin, Alice Sherwin, and Margaret Young. Survived by sister-in-laws Paula Deviney (Doug) and Ruth Haig (Milton).

Raised locally, Gord joined the RCAF in 1942 and served as a Navigator-observer over occupied territory in France during the summer of 1944. Shot down on the night of August 17, Gord evaded capture until liberated by advancing allied troops. Gord returned to Canada to start a trucking company (G K SherwinTransport) which he operated successfully for 52 years. His life was enriched by family, horse racing, service to community, world travel with Marion as volunteers with Sleeping Children Around the World, membership in the Cobourg Rotary Club, church suppers, fiddle music and an abiding passion for driving though the hills of Northumberland County.
