Atomic Million AM Romps At 3R
Three-time Quebec-Bred Series Champion and former track record holder, Atomic Million AM, returned to his home track for the last Tuesday evening race card of the 2016 season and breezed home an easy winner for driver Sylvain Lacaille.
Headlining the eighth race feature pace, Lacaille sent the five-year-old gelded son of Million Dollar Cam right to the front from post five and they never had to look back, wiring the field with ease by four and one-half lengths in 1:56. Reel (Jonathan Lachance) was second with Bali (Marie Claude Auger) third.
It was the fifth win this year for Atomic Million AM, three of those victories coming at the Hippodrome 3R for owner, breeder and trainer Alain Martin of Gatineau, QC. Atomic Million AM paid $3.10 to win.
The match-up between the two winningest horses at 3R this season, St Kitts and Jimbelina, never materialized in the fourth race as St Kitts refused to get behind the starting gate for driver Jonathan Lachance and was declared a non-starter.
Meanwhile, Jimbelina (Stephane Brosseau) stung EY Cowboy (Louis-Philippe Roy) to the opening quarter mile but could not catch them in the stretch with EY Cowboy ($4.30) winning by one and one-quarter lengths in 1:57.3.
Whitemountain Nemo ($4.10) looked like he was shot out of a cannon in the second race pace for driver Guy Gagnon, leading by three to five lengths the entire mile and then pouring it on in the stretch to score by seven and three-quarter lengths in 1:54.3. It was the second straight win and a lifetime mark for the seven-year-old gelding by Yankee Cam.
Wednesday afternoon will be the post position draws for Super Sunday at 3R featuring more than $500,000 in purses with eight championships finals. There will be four $65,000 finals in the Breeders Crown Series for three-year-old trotters and pacers and four $55,000 finals for the Future Stars Series for two-year-olds.
