Sophomores Shine In Manitoba Finals

Three-year-old pacing colt Baylor Out and filly Cordees Whitesocks dominated their competition in a pair of Manitoba Sires Stakes finals at Miami Fair on Saturday, August 27.

Baylor Out was a wide-open winner in the $10,660 Golden Boys final, earning the fifth stakes win of his sophomore campaign for trainer, driver and owner Marc Fillion. The homebred Armbro Baylor-Alcars Xit colt carved out panels of :29.3, 1:00.3 and 1:31.1 before drawing away from the rest of the six-horse field to win by 11 lengths in a lifetime-best clocking of 2:01.1. Heartland Eclipse and Heartland Burt rounded out the top three finishers.

Cordees Whitesocks kept her undefeated streak intact with a 2:06 wire-to-wire winning effort in the $9,218 final of the Silk Lace over a pair of filly foes. The lightly raced daughter of Baylor Out and Andrea Cole Lynn was driven to her fourth straight victory by Don Howlett for trainer Trevor Williams and co-owner Michael Williams. She led the trio through fractions of :31, 1:03.4 and 1:35.1 before closing out the career-best mile with a :30.4 final frame to stay clear of runner-up Luvn The Life. Trishas Fancy followed six lengths behind in third.

The afternoon's $1,750 Fillies & Mares Open Pace was won by Richard and Janet Rey's Wine N Mcroses, who lowered the track record for aged pacing mares by one-fifth of a second to 1:58.1. Michel Rey was in the sulky as the five-year-old daughter of McArdle defeated Wild Chic by one length, with Gold Star Sonata back in third.
