Baylor Out Crushes Futurity Foes
Marc Fillion's homebred colt Baylor Out was back in the Manitoba stakes spotlight on Saturday (August 20) at Miami as the three-year-old pacer romped to a 16-length victory in the $8,794 final of the MSSBA Futurity.
The Armbro Baylor-Alcars Xit colt dominated the field of seven sophomores, leading through fractions of :29.4, 1:01 and 1:32.2 en route to the crushing victory in a career-best clocking of 2:04.3 over the "good" track. Rocket Power edged ahead of Als Happy Baylor in the race for place.
Baylor Out has earned four stakes wins this year on the Manitoba fair circuit from eight starts while earning $11,552 in purses. He boasts a near-perfect (six-for-seven) lifetime stakes record, with his only loss a third-place result in an elimination of the Manitoba Great Western Stake.
This week's $1,700 Mares Open Handicap was won by the Trevor Williams stables' Gold Star Sonata, who rebuffed a challenge from Wild Chic past the third quarter mark and scored by two lengths in 2:02.3 in rein to Don Howlett. The four-year-old Rock On mare has earned all 10 of her career wins this year, including four since relocating to Manitoba in June. Gottaluckydeal, who trailed the six-horse field through the first half-mile, came on to finish second over Wild Chic.
