Henriksen, O'Donnell To Sweden
For just the second time in his long and illustrious driving career, Bill O'Donnell will make an on-track appearance at a racetrack in Sweden.
O'Donnell and horseman Per Henriksen are headed overseas as the two drivers have been asked to compete in the 2016 Ahlsell Invitation. This is the same race John Campbell was invited to compete in two years ago.
The last time O'Donnell drove in Sweden was his first: the 1994 Elitlopp with the great Armbro Keepsake.
"It's a great opportunity," O'Donnell told Trot Insider, who noted he'll take a few days to see some sights between the two appearances.
The first race will come on Saturday at Åby racetrack in Mölndal (part of Gothenburg) on the west side of the country. The Canadian drivers will face a number of European legends including Pierre Levesque, Giampaolo Minnucci, Hugo Langeweg Sr., Anders Lindqvist, Olle Goop, Erik Adielsson, Axel Jacobsen and Jörn Morten Kvikstad. The race will be part of the Åby Stora Pris card, featuring some of the country's top older trotters including Un Mec D’ Heripre, Mosaique Face and BBS Sugarlight.
On Wednesday, the legends will make an appearance at Solvalla Racecourse in Stockholm. Among the drivers listed to compete will once again be O'Donnell, Goop, Lindqvist and Minnucci plus Swedish legends Stig Johansson and Bo Eklof, and Germany's Willi Rode.
