Preferreds To 'Cliffy' And 'Victory'
Meadowview Cliffy and Spartan Victory posted impressive victories in their respective $7,500 Preferred 3 Trot events during Monday’s card of Grand River Raceway.
First up was Meadowview Cliffy, who rallied for a 1:57.2 triumph at odds of 6-1. Doug Brown grabbed the gelding some second over cover in the middle stages of the mile before brushing to the front in the late stages of the mile and powering away to win by 3-3/4 lengths over Brandon CS. Taking home third prize was Kadabrasnewrecruit.
Pam Forgie of Goderich, Ont. owns and trains the five-year-old son of Muscle Mass-Meadowview Princess. It was the fifth win of the year for the nine-time winner, who lifted his lifetime earnings over $60,000 with the win.
Spartan Victory hustled to the lead for driver Ryan Holliday in the other division of the Preferred 3, and once he cleared to the top it was game over for the others.
The Kris Di Cenzo pupil led the group through panels of :28.1, :59.1 and 1:28.4 before scooting home in :29.1 to win by 7-3/4 lengths over Lets Leavem in 1:58. Chewey was third.
Brad Pittock of London, Ont. owns nine-year-old son of Hard Rock N Roll-Kandys Kelsey. The win was the third of the season – and the 35th to date – for the career winner of $252,699.
