Mohawk Qualifier Recap
A light five-pack of qualifying races were on the docket this morning at Mohawk Racetrack, but that did not stop notable Bob McIntosh trainees and a classy Quebec
veteran from gracing the Campbellville oval.
The third dash of the morning saw the four-year-old charted debut of McIntosh's The Panderosa horse Lisfinny. After having last raced in the Matron over Dover Downs on December 15, the $240,120 earner this morning utilized a quarter-pole move and recorded a one and a quarter-length victory in 1:53.3 for driver Mark MacDonald.
The Mohegan Pan, another McIntosh student, was also putting in his first charted mile of the year in Race 3. The career winner of $542,458 came first up on the final turn for driver Steve Condren and finished second, pacing his mile in 1:53.4.
“We’re happy with the way he’s come back,” McIntosh assistant trainer Tracy Wilcox said of The Mohegan Pan. “He qualified well and we’re very happy with the time. He was turned out for over two months, and then Bob took about four months to bring him back. We’ll let the dust settle and digest today’s results, and then probably go again (in a
qualifier). So far, so good.
“Lisfinny is on the same program. Both wintered well and have come back well, and they look fit, so we’ll see what happens.”
Finishing third in Race 3 was Power Park, the classy Good News Scooter horse that has amassed $802,745 so far in his career. Power Park finished third in the mile for driver Sylvain Filion and trainer Jean Beaulieu. The bay -- well known to Quebec punters -- sports a career slate of 51-37-23 from 131 starts.
